Your Expectations

Starting middle school can be quite exciting yet scary at the same time. I want to know your thoughts about starting the new school year as a middle school student. What were your expectations? (What did you expect of your teachers, and what were your goals at the beginning of the school year?) It is now the second nine weeks;reflect over your answers to the previous questions. Is middle school what you expected? Explain why or why not. What are your current goals for the second nine weeks?

coming into the sixth grade was scary to me i expected it to be the same as the fifth grade, but it wasnt i knew my teachers would be more strict and we would get more work but i didnt think it would be this hard though

I expected middle school to get even harder than it was last year. I already know that W.J.C. would be at a faster paste because of the way my cousins Miya & Britney came home with a lot of homework, and how they had a project nearly every weekend. My goals were to have A B honor roll, and to have at least 3 projects before the end of the 1st quarter. Weird right? Well I didn’t know that we were just now entering into the Pre-AP work and it has become even harder than it was at first (I can’t lie). My goals for the 2nd 9 weeks is to have all A’s. I also want to get my act together so that I don’t get in any trouble.

I can admit that the first day of school was pretty scary. I first expected my teachers to be much like my others but they were different in a good kind of way. I overheard other students say things that they may have heard, but I say otherwise. My personal and public goals at the beginning of the school year were to get to know my teachers and succeed in each subject. Middle school is not what I expected, but it is better than I expected. At first, I expected the 1st nine weeks to be very easy but they weren’t. The best thing I like about W.J.C is that when enter that classroom, you have fun with a lesson and learn while you don’t notice it. My current goals for the second nine weeks are to continue my same routine, stay out of trouble, and gain better in knowledge.

Middle school is exacity like I thought it would be. My teachers were kinder than I thought. At first it was kind of challangeing, but now were doing Pre-AP work. This second nine weeks I will try my best to get A B honor roll. I want to continue stay out of trouble. Also, I will study harder than ever, to get great grades.I want to a least do two fun projects this nine weeks.

I knew that middle school was going to be a little harder than elementary but know it is another ball game . You have to dig a little deeper when you're doing everything [reading, math, social science, science]. Middle school will never be like elementary , but I believe that I need to step up my game and study.

Unknown said...

When I first came into middle school, I was shocked because the work wasn't hard as I thought it would be and today its not. Even though I haven't been doing so well during the second week of school, I have steped my game up. I'll admit that at first I didn't like school, but know I do because we are doing interactive things and we learn more than an average teacher (elementary teacher) would teach us. I also thought that the teacher wouldn't care what say or do as long as get the work done. today I have been proven wrong because the three spectacular teachers ( Mrs. Lavender, Mrs. Cammack, and Miss. Turner) have told deep (I mean deep) informationabout everything and it has been helping me a lott so I congratulate them. This year would be cool and I look forward to being an on point student (which I know all ready).

On the first day of school, I was prepared for the absolute worst. I expected my teachers not to be the same as elementary schools teachers. I knew that since I wasn't going to a ordainary school, the teachers were always going to be serious and expect more than just medicore students. My goals of the beginning of the school year were to manage the hard work and to strive for the best i could do.
Throught September and October I was challenged by the Pre-AP work. There were many moments were we had to really think Level 3 in each subject. Overall, yes middle school was what I expected it to be. I knew I would have to put more effort in, pay attention more in every classroom time, participate in every classroom discussion, and be prepared to be challenged. My goals for the second nine weeks are to stay out of any trouble, strive for the A-B honor roll, and change my crowd of friends if they stop me to my success.

Unknown said...

I thought this school year was going to be harder than what it was. I thought we would be moving at a faster pace, and would a busy year. It was hard at first, but the teachers have been very helpful.

Unknown said...

I knew middle school was going to be hard, but I just have to deal with it . My goal was to have the a honor roll . I didn't get that , because i was trying hard enough enough. This nine weeks i will try to work harder not play and not as much .To have all A's in my classes.

Unknown said...

To be honest, this is exactly what I expected at this school.Even though I got a few bad grades,I can still pull them up.

To tell the truth, starting middle school was one of the scariest experiences of my life. Just imagine it, you’re 7 years old and you’re getting on you’re first big kid ride. Its one of the scariest things that has ever happened to you, yet when you get off, its one of your greatest accomplishments. This is exactly how I feel about middle school. I felt it would be harder of course, but I also felt I would have to give more than my best. I had to go over good enough especially since I was going to attend W.J. Christian. I would not be babied and I would not be able to get extra points for being good. I would have to make what I made and live on with my life. I was expecting to make all A’s because my brother made it look so easy, but it wasn’t. Yes, middle school is just how I expected it to be. My goals for the second nine weeks is to stop talking, stop procrastinating, and like the first nine weeks, make all A’s!!!!

Anonymous said...

I soooooo agree with Ariyana. My brother came home with loads and loads of homework. While I stood there making fun of him, I totally forgot it would happen to me.

Unknown said...

6 Th grade is not what I thought it would be like. Knowing I am taking PRE-AP classes is challenging but, not the reason you are thinking. It is like when I am taking a test this feeling comes to visit my brain and whispers to me don’t mess up Hunter again and again. I just have to learn to study more and spend less time talking so when he comes I will know what I am doing on the test. This nine weeks I will study more, pay attention and take notes then, hopefully my grades will reflect on that.

I knew middle school was going to be tough but not this tough. I knew I had to be a smart young lady to be at this school. My goals are getting a B average , paying attention more to the teachers, and to bring my grades up.

Unknown said...

I agree with Kourtney because it is just like a ride that is scary but later in life you do it all over again and you are used to it.

Unknown said...

Middle school is what I expected it to be. Even though I get tons of homework, I’m glad that I’m learning everything I’m supposed to. Instead of moaning and groaning about going to school every day I like to get up and start another day of 6th grade. To be perfectly honest I never thought this moment would come because in 5th, 4th, and 3th grade I kept dreaming of the day I would be in middle school.

Unknown said...

i agree with you tamiya because i started off awfully

Anonymous said...

I agree with you lyndia because when you don't focus and play around, you are not putting forth your besteffort you're just letting all your hard work go down the drain.

Unknown said...

When my sister, Alexandria McKay, started middle school there, she was coming home with a lot of homework. My mother would always tell me, “You might as well get used getting a lot of homework because when you hit middle school, the teachers don't play around with their work and you have to do it.” I was scared at first to start middle school at first because I knew that we would have more homework and I wasn't used to getting a lot of homework. I always told myself since the first day of school, “You have to do your work turn it in on time and do your best work.” But now that I'm doing Pre-AP things I know that I'm not doing my best work and that I can do better even though I got the honor roll. For the next nine weeks I'm going to start doing my best at everything. Also if I need help on something I need to ask or that help, but I'm to shy to go up to a teacher and say that I need help. So I'm going to do my best and ask for help when I need it.

Unknown said...

I agree with Hunter because I feel my heart racing when I am having a test.

Unknown said...

I had expected for 6th grade to be a lot of hard working, and I was right. Still, it is not so bad, but I need since the 1st nine weeks was okay, but now we are getting to the real deal. I hope I can be successful for what we need to prepare for now.

Unknown said...

I agree with Ariyana because now that I am in Pre-AP the paste gets faster even though you want it to slow down.

Unknown said...

I agree with Ariyana because I know Miya and Brittney and they had a lot of homework sometimes.

Unknown said...

I agree with Jamaris on the teachers part because i thought since we would have a lot of work the teachers would be strict.

Unknown said...

Oh yeah,my teachers are definitely strict,but I can handle it,but I realy love the teachers,especially Mrs.Lavender.

Unknown said...

I agree with Miranda because the paste is faster and I be wishing it would just slow down.

Unknown said...

I agree with Hunter because when I take a test my heart be going so fast like 20,000 drums in a contest for the fastest drummer.

Unknown said...

I expected middle school to be even harder than elementary.I'm about to get serious and stop being so playful. My goal is to get all A's this year like last year in elementary, but this year I'm thinking 20 times as harder than last year.I am very confident this year in everything I do,and even if the test and other work is a little harder.

L.Lavender said...

I really enjoy reading your responses, and I thank all of you for your input. I'm glad to know that you all are enjoying your sixth grade experience thus far, and I hope we will have a wonderful, productive year!

Anonymous said...

I agree with Frederick on : The teachers are very strict, but sometimes, they are strict because they want us to do better.

Anonymous said...

Not tryin to be mean, but why would you expect the same thing as fifth grade trinity mullen. each year when you go to a different grade, things change. like when you got in 2nd grade you couldn't take naps in kindergarden anymore. and especially when you are heading to middle school you should expect more!!!

Unknown said...

I thought middle school was going to be rigorous, and nearly impossible to make all A's, but when I put forth the work, there is no telling what I can do.

Unknown said...

Middle school is somewhat like what I expected it to be. Personally, I thought it would be harder, academically speaking, but I know that’s soon to come in the future. In my mind the teachers were exaggerated to be stricter and less lenient. That is probably also to come in the future. I also thought that the workload would be heavier. So it seems as if my mind was already set for the future. Some of my goals for the second nine weeks are to keep up the great job and keep improving since there is always room for improvement.

Unknown said...

I agree with Amiya, the first nine weeks of school weren’t exactly what I thought they would be they were better.

Unknown said...

I can admit that the first day of middle school, I was a bit nervous, but I knew I would get the hang of things. I expected middle school to be different from elementary school, mostly because the 5th grade teachers kept telling us middle school is going to be hard for us if we didn’t get on track. I like the teachers at WJC, because they give me a challenge and I like their different teaching styles. I think I learned a lot and expanded my vocabulary during the 1st none week, and I hope I continue to learn more things as each day passes by. My goals for the second nine weeks are to make the A honor roll and to control my talking habits.

Unknown said...

i agree with Benjamin, mainly because if you don’t try you will never succeed. You never know what you can do unless you try. Yes You Can!!

Unknown said...

I expected 6th grade to be very challenging and fast-paced. I thought the writing assignments would be longer, and the math classes more complex. The 6th grade requires focus, concentration, and time consuming. I have to do a better job in these areas to maintain good grades.

Unknown said...

I agree with rachel and I was also a bit nervous and i felt lik I was already off for college

Unknown said...

6th grade is not at all what I expected it to be. On the first day of school I was expecting the work to be very rigorous and the teachers to be wicked mean. I have been in 6th grade for about 3 months and the work has not become challenging at all. Everything that we are learning in school, I already know because my teachers taught me that last year. My goals for the 2nd nine - weeks is to bring up my c in math and have only A's and B's. 6th grade is the total opposite of what I expected it to be.

Unknown said...

I agree with Gabrielle McKay, because even if you are on the honor roll, don’t think you don’t have to still work hard. It’s challenging to make the honor roll, but it’s even more challenging to stay on the honor roll.

Unknown said...

I will strive to make the honor roll and improve my work and writing habits and I think I will be set for my goal

Unknown said...

hI agree with Parrish. The first nine weeks have felt as a review to me. Most of the things we are doing now, we did in my fifth grade class. Then we only learned the basics and bits and pieces of it. Now, being in sixth grade, the conversation can be more in depth and you can learn more about the topic.

Unknown said...

When I first started middle I thought my work load was going to increase 10 times. My prediction was right, but as the load increased I thought it was fairly easy. I also thought my teachers weren’t going to care about my understanding of our lesson, so I tried to stay as focus as possible, but I couldn’t because I’m not that kind of person. So since that didn’t work I set goals and asked my grandmother for some 6th grade skill books so I would have a head start, but she didn’t have any.

Unknown said...

I fully agree with Myranda because waking me up is very hard work (almost impossible at times). Now I am happy to get up everyday and start a fresh day of 6th grade.

Unknown said...

I really want to agree with Amiya Poole .Her first day was extremely like mine. The only thing that was different was I didn’t have all my supplies, so my 1st day was unorganized. I lost almost everything that was put in my hand.

Unknown said...

I can agree that middle school is exciting and yes it was kind of nervous, but know I’m getting used to it. One of my goals was to get on the honor roll; which I did. I thought the teachers were going to be strict about everything, but their not so bad as I thought they were going to be. Middle school is what I expected it to be because my mother said it would be a challenge and teachers at my old school said it was going to be a challenge. My goals for the second nine weeks are to get straight A’s on my report card.

Unknown said...

I agree with Makayla because we don't have as much work as I thought we would. When I talked to some W.J.C. alumni they were highly exagerrating saying that the teachers were mean and that I would have a truck load of homework even on the first day. The work is easy and the teachers are nice if you do your work. To me W.J.C. is so much fun.

Unknown said...

I expected 6th grade to be complicated throughout the school year, but there was some things I had to stop doing to succeed in 6th grade. I didn’t like the grades I had I know I could’ve done better on the firs-nine weeks. When I showed my grades to some of my teachers they said that they were disappointed and they also said that I could’ve done better. The second nine-weeks I will strive to have better grades and work harder than I did the 1st nine-weeks. I will not procrastinate when it comes to my work and projects, I will start doing my projects earlier not at the last minute. If I worked harder on the first nine-weeks on wouldn’t have the two C’s 3that I got on my report card. This is what I will do to achieve my goals for the second nine-weeks.

Unknown said...

Sixth grade is what I expected it to be, even though we don't have much as I expected now, I know where gonna start getting it later on in the school year. Also my brother, who is now in seventh grade, told me all about the work we would have, about the teachers, and about what would make them mad. So, I was actually ready for the sixth grade. My goals for the second nine weeks is to strive to keep all A's on my report card by doing and turning in all of my work.

Unknown said...

As a new middle school student, I expected to have a great experience as I entered a new phase of my life. I knew that I would have to be more mature, responsible and independent. I thought the work would be extremely difficult. It can be challenging, but, staying on task has helped me to succeed thus far. The teachers are nice, supportive, and great to have as teachers. My goal at the beginning of the school year was to get straight “A”’s and to be known as a respectful and helpful person. Other goals that I set were to do my very best and try to understand my work If I don’t understand, I will ask questions. I try to be on my best behavior at all times.

I disagree with Trinity because I was told a thousand times that 6th grade would not be the same as 5th grade because you will not be able to get away with things and the work would be even harder.

Unknown said...

I agree with Lyndia because when you do it [reading, math, social science, and science] you have to put your mind to it.

Unknown said...

I did not expect the 6th grade to be as hard as it is. I had to make a big transition coming from the 5th grade because we hardly did any homework. So coming from a school where you had almost no homework to a school where you have homework every day has been a little hard. I thought the classes were going to be harder and we would have to do a lot of work, yet the classes have not been as hard as I thought they would be. But, we have had a lot of work. I figured the teachers would be stricter and they are. However, I think it is just because they are trying to get the best out of us. I know that I have to really apply myself, and do a lot of praying. I am sure everything will turn out fine.

Unknown said...

My expectations for the first nine weeks of 6th Grade were that the work we did was going to be difficult and teachers were going to be very strict. The reason being was because in 5th Grade teacher after teacher would say “you better get ready for 6th Grade because what you are doing now is going to get a lot harder.” So when I arrived in 6th grade it kind of scared me because I remember everything the teacher told me when I was in the 5th Grade. After my first experience of the first nine weeks in 6th Grade I got to know how each teacher work and my grades improved. Therefore in the 2nd nine weeks I will strive for the best and not settle to get by.

Unknown said...

My expetations were to do the same thing I did last year, but have a bettter attuide.

Unknown said...

I agree with Ariyana B. because I want to get all A's and I want to get my act together too.

Unknown said...

Middle school is not what I expected I thought it would easy, but now I realize that it is harder than ice getting frozen twice in the freezer.

Unknown said...

I agree with Brandon Sanders because I was always told that 6th grade would be hard but knowing myself, I thought otherwise. So as Brandon Sanders, I quoted that I will srtive harder for the second nine weeks. This is so because I wan't to keep good grades to be sucessful in the future. Now that I have got used to thepaste of middle school, it would be easier to follow in the daily routine. I also agree with Ariana Brown and Gabriel M. because it's not about your grades, its about how you earn them and keep them up.

Unknown said...

I also agree with James M. because I also knew that middle school was going to be hard because my sister was in Ms. Turner's class and she would always come home with a lot of homework.

I fully agree with Rachel. My 5th grade teachers also told me that my school was going to be very challenging and hard, which made it even more worse.

Unknown said...

I expected middle school to be difficult at first, but when I saw most of my friends from North Roebuck, I knew it would
be a great year, I also knew it would be a great year
when I met my homeroom teacher Mrs. Lavender, I expected my teachers to be strict, but sometimes the aren’t as strict as they usually are, and I’m trying to make A B honor roll this nine weeks.

Unknown said...

Middle school is what I expected, because my sister came home with alot of homework every weekend. There was one weekend she did't have any homework because her teacher was out.

Unknown said...

Aniyah brown is right Because, middle school is not what I expected but, I want to be a productive and more aggresive with my work

Unknown said...

I agree with Elijah because I even want to be more agressive with my work.

In the beginging it was scary but i got relax. My teachers to should be fun, firm, and good people.I all ready new that middle school was a lot harder then 5 grade but not so hard that I would not be able to do what was thrown at me so middle in hard but fun.The nine weeks im in,I want to be better, better grades and attiude so we will see what happens.

Unknown said...

Yea Warren I need to do the same.

Unknown said...

trinity I think it was really scary so we got that down pack.

Unknown said...

I agree with royal, because in the beginning I felt like it was scary, but then I became relaxed over time.

Unknown said...

I agree with royal, because in the beginning I felt like it was scary, but then I became relaxed over time.

Unknown said...

I agree with Brandon, because I felt scared, my fifth grade teachers said the sixth grade teachers were going to be extra strict.

I expected middle school to be a nightmare. Six Grade is a nightmare. The classes are Pre-AP. I was expecting for my teachers to be cool, but they are very very very strict. Six grade is what I expected It to be.

Unknown said...

I expected middle school to be hard during the first nine weeks, but it was easy as baking a cake. The first nine weeks of school was about observing your teachers and classmates and also previewing the things you should have learned last year. Throughout September and October I was challenged by Pre-AP work, but the challenge is neither easy nor hard, because I know if I study my notes every single day of the week. I will pass the sixth grade. I have the best teachers in the universe! I appreciate them because they make sure we have what we need. My goal for the second nine weeks is to stay focus at all times and make all A’s.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Myranda Bell because, Even though we get tons of homework, I’m glad that we are learning everything we are supposed to be learning.

Anonymous said...

I disagree with Mekiya Harris because backing a cake isn't easy to me, and neither is school.

Middle school is not what I expected. I thought that middle school would be a lot like 5th grade.
You have to look at all material as soon as you get it. I know one thing, you can’t hibernate on 6th grade

On the first day of school, I can admit that I had butterflies in my stomach. I thought that middle was going to be just like the book I read by James Peterson. I thought middle school about as exciting as a stop sign. After being in school for a week the butterflies in my stomach started to fly away. I went from being a shy and timid sixth grader to being a very enthusiastic sixth grader. My expectations for the first nine weeks were just to try my hardest and make my parents proud. My expectations were full-filled because at the end of the nine weeks I was happy about making my choice to go to W.J Christian. The sixth grade teachers there are great and I look forward to my future experiences with them. I believe I couldn’t have chosen a better place for me and my academic talents. My expectations for the second nine weeks are just to try my hardest in everything I do. I want to try to do everything I can do to make my parents and me proud because no matter what I want to tell them I am happy for them to making there decision on letting me go to W.J Christian. Although I thought middle school was going to be as exciting as a stop sign, all my theories were absolutely wrong and I’m very happy the turned out to be inaccurate theories.

Sawani said...

I agree with Amiya Poole because I heard many scary things from 7th and 8th graders. As the school year is progressing, I am starting to like my teachers more and more. Amiya has some of the same goals I do because I would like to continue my same routine throughout the school year that I have now.

Sawani said...

I agree with Tamiya because I did expect the absolute worst for middle school. Fortunately, all our theory was wrong about middle school.

Unknown said...

coming into sixth grade was not really scary for me its just the work was alot harder, but now all the work is really easy all you gotta do is study and take really good notes without notes what ever the teachers says is useless because you need notes in order to study you're not gonna ace a test by playing and talking that won't even give you a b or a c

comming into the 6th grade i was thinking that it would be like the movies when there would be a giant bully and the teachers wont care about u at all.

I agree with Zahra because the teachers are strict than the elementary teachers but the teachers at the elementary school don’t give much information like our teachers do know.

Honestly I expected the worst from middle school because my older brother always tells me that every grade is harder than the last but once I caught on to the learning pace I realized that middle school isn't as hard as many people make it sound.

Unknown said...

I expected middle school to be like fifth grade, which it wasn't I thought it would easy to get good grades. Turns out it's nothing easy about 6th grade. To make good grades you have to work, to work you have to concentrate. When you are concentrating, you are succeeding at your work. What I expected from my teachers was an easy A and a smile every time I walked up to them. My goals at the beginning of school was to wake up every morning with a positive attitude to work and make good grades. Middle school is not what I expected, because middle school is worse than what I expected. My goals for the second nine weeks are to stay with a positive attitude. To get my work done on time, and to never make bad grades.!

Unknown said...

This school year is harder than last year and everyone has to study to make better grades. You can't just come into 6th grade thinking you are going to get the same straight A's or same straight A-B Honor Roll. You have to work to make those good grades you want to make every nine weeks.

Unknown said...

This 6th grade year everyone is always wasting time playing, even tho our classes are shorter. You can't be playing with your friends or talking when a teacher is teaching, because then you face the consequences which is not good. During class is not the right time to be doing something you're not supposed to be doing, as if you have all the time in world when you need to be learning.

Unknown said...

I thought coming into the sixth grade would be frightening but it really isn't all that bad. The teachers are very nice and they help understand our work. I made a goal that I would do good on my tests, so far I have. My new goals will be to make the honor roll.

Unknown said...

Well for me thought that school was going to be hard. I say that because I would have to transition to the knew school. I knew that I would have to work hard in everything I do but not that hard. My teacher allowed me to transititon to the new school and I was really proud of that. I now know that in the second nine weeks I'm going to have to work really hard because I have trasition by now.

Unknown said...

I expected middle school to be very academically challenging. I expected my teachers to be fun and caring. My goals at the beginning of the school year were to continue to make all A's, respect my teachers and peers, and have fun. Although I had a tough curriculum in 5th grade, I knew that 6th grade would be a breeze. However, middle school has been more challenging than I expected it to be. The level of academics is similiar to high school. My current goals for the 2nd nine weeks are to make the all A or A/B Honor Roll and continue to have good conduct.

I agree with Hunter ,because people were making it seem like 6th grade was going to be hard but it isn’t hard unless you don’t do your work. So if I shutup and do my work I can prove to people that 6th grade is easy as pie all you have to do is take your time, study, and do your work.

I agree with Benjiamin , because you can do anything you want to if you put your mind to it so never say never.

Imagining myself coming to the sixth I thought I would be just fine. Now I realize being a sixth grade is tough. W.J.C.’s pace is very fast and I realize there is no room for error. I have to keep up. I know I will not be perfect but I have to be the best I can be.

My exspectations for middle school was hard, and a more challengeing grade level for me. It would be just like my mother said. She said I would have to work harder than I usually did, so, yes my expectations was right, and that I am living in my exspectations I know I would have to work harder than I usually do, and my life would be much harder. I also know this is only half of what my life is going to be when I get older.
